Licensure
To practice their profession, every physician must be licensed. The two exams someone can take to get a license are U.S. Medical Licensing Examination for M.D.s or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination for D.O.s. Each state has its own licensure rules for new physicians and how to maintain the license. Licenses can be suspended if a doctor is suspected of crime or unethical behavior. Also, licenses have to be maintained by continuing education through CEUs. |
Neonatologist's Licensure
Since neonatologists are physicians, they have to be licensed to work legally in the U.S. The license comes from the American Board of Pediatrics and the sub-board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Candidates must also retain a current, unencumbered license from their state board of medicine. |
