Physician
Before you can become a neonatologist, you first have to become a MD physician. The requirements to be a physician includes four years of undergraduate school and four years of medical school. To be accepted into medical school, an application is required which includes your MCAT scores, a transcript, and recommendation letter. Medical schools look for qualities like high grades, good test scores, motivation, leadership skills, communication skills, and a sense of service. A license is also required to be a physician. |
Neonatologist
To become a neonatologist, four years of medical school is just the first requirement. Further requirements include three years of residency training in general pediatrics, three years of additional training called fellowship in newborn intensive care, and licensure from the American Board of Pediatrics and by the Sub-board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. |
